The Book and Nanowrimo
Nanowrimo(National Novel Writing Month) is fast approaching…are you going to be one of the writers to try it? No matter if you are a Nano-er or not, maybe this post will be helpful.
Novel writing: a life-time dream
Have you always wanted to write a novel, but you felt like you had to be this brilliant wordsmith with a degree in literature to do so? We all feel that way when we first start out. Best advice: don’t give up your day job to pursue this endeavor, but DO pursue it.
Nanowrimo, can help you.
According to Wikipedia, “The project started in July 1999 with 21 participants, but by the 2010 event, over 200,000 people took part and wrote a total of over 2.8 billion words.
That’s a lot of words and it has only grown since then!
The Book and Nanowrimo
I started writing the Shannon Wallace mystery series during Nano. I sat in a quiet room in 2008 and went at it listening to Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down, over and over.
But I did it. I got that book done (not completed during Nano, but it did help). And that is what you have to do too. You have to GET ‘ER DONE.
I REALLY NEEDED HELP
Maybe you do too. You can produce such a faster draft when you have all the knowledge you need.
I am going to be doing a series of posts, maybe video, possibly audio, on how to get in the writing chair and stay there until you get that book underway.
It will include:
- Motivating ideas, harnessing inspirarion
- Research, and how you need to do it to keep your sanity
- Writing as a pantser and how to rein in the wandering mind
- Picking out your genre, character, and theme
- Starting out with action
And likely a whole lot more. This will be something you can look forward to in the new year. I am planning it for 2017. I hope you will hang out here at the blog and check it out.
Next time, I will be unveiling the NEXT BOOK in the series. I know you just cannot wait!
