What does my reader want?

Several things have become glaringly apparent this weekend so far as How to Write is concerned. I guess whenever anyone embarks on such an auspicious endeavor, one must not get overly involved in the stuff behind the scenes. Well, I have. Deeply, truly, madly involved. But it’s all for my reader. It is because I care. I do not want to be a big fat failure, and have you scratching your head wondering what the heck I am talking about. But then too, I do not want anyone who is a little more advanced falling asleep as we dig into

Reading a book versus savoring a story

If you are like me, you love to read a good book. To race through the pages (or savor them slowly) to get to the end and find out what this adventure really was all about-well, that’s about the best experience with a book. But have you ever been reading and found that the story made you scratch your head and say huh? Sometimes writers get carried away with world-building and forget “the story”. Sometimes they are so in love with their character trait sheets that they tell us more about who the paper person IS than what they are

Reading List 2014

As this years winds down, I am looking back over it, checking out my reading list. I really outdid myself this year. I read over 24 books .Most of them were paper books. That is a stat that a lot of ebook authors will not like to hear, but it is the honest truth. And if others told their reading tale, they would probably show that I am not in a minority. I love books. I love paper books. I use my Kindle and my iPhone for reading, but honestly, I would rather read a paperback. Confession of a paperback

The end of the year 2014 is looming ahead in only two weeks. Then we will be off on a mad adventure called 2015. I feel like I am on the precipice of a Dr. Who episode. What will transpire as we open the Tardis’ door and peer out onto a new and unfamiliar landscape? Well, I don’t think we will encounter aliens. Not yet. But in 2015 I do hope to bring you some new cool stuff. I have already updated my books read page, because I do not think I will finish another one this year. I have

5 Reasons Why Reading is Important

Not long ago, I went to an event to sit at a table and sell books. It was not the usual sort of bookselling event (outdoor local festival), however, and I didn’t really hold a lot of hope. I did sell a couple, but I digress. The most important thing I discovered at the event was this: when asked what kind of books a person liked to read, most said I don’t read. SHOCKED! And honestly, I don’t think it is a lie. According to http://www.statisticbrain.com 56% of young people claim to read more than 10 books a year, but
