What readers think part two
After jetting off to work, I remembered another bit from my reader friend. She reads a lot yall. I mean A LOT. And she reads indie books and NY pubbed books. She is a fan of books of writers and she is a real reader.
She said when we discussed books and reading that she gets some that are not well-edited. The misspelled words, grammatical errors, and other nasties that she encounters can give her pause sometimes. It hasn’t made her stop reading however. She has never not finished a book – yet. She said that misspelled words can make reading difficult, and she hates when that happens, but if the story is rocking, well, she is going straight through.
She admits that more and more improperly edited books are showing up on e-shelves and it is certainly encumbant on the writer to do their best. But if she is the “reader” that a writer wants to encounter, then maybe all those hours of edits are really worth it, y’all.
Bottom line: Don’t give a reader a reason to stop reading.
