Line Edit News! NEWS!

Okay, now that I have done my newsboys gig, let’s get to it. Life at the house of line edits…

Newsies

Lines, tigers, edits, oh my!

I have not been posting much due to work/life/coronavirus stuff. Yes, we all have been being good little humans and quarantining ourselves. Not that I mind. Really. I have discovered that I am quite the homebody/loner. Didn’t know that about myself. But I am and so there, I’ve said it.

But what’s the news you ask? Well, I’m glad you helped me de-digress.

So, I have been deep into that dark abyss called LINE EDITS.

If you are one of those who thinks that the life of a writer is all April showers and dandy May flowers, well, think again. Line edits are the soul-crushing, ego-flattening things that make you cringe at what you once thought was a good story. And yes, we all have to do this. Self-pub and trad-pub alike.

But, Kim, what is a line edit?

For those who are fans and readers and not really writers, a line edit is that part of the revision/editing process where you read EVERY line and make a decision if that line is good enough to stay or if it could be cut to make room for less verbiage. You know, in today’s world, the reader is busy. They have no time to go through all the beautiful prose you put in your work. They want action and they want it from the get-go.

So, that is what I am doing. I am line-editing my WIP, an epic fantasy. Yes, I have done it. It is the work of my soul. I am so excited about it! But for now, I must return to the halls of the revision-and do some more line edits.

Hope you all are staying inside, staying alive, and being kind. Also, as things stand now, Kim Smith author is still staying online. My other businesses, not so much 🙁 more about this later. Be good!
