How to stand out in the book market part three

Welcome to part three of my little series on how to stand out in the book market. You can read part one here and follow the link here to get part two.

It’s pretty much a no-brainer on the ways to do this, but I do hope I put a little bit of a new spin on it. We all are wading along up to our necks in books. Amazon probably didn’t even know it would be such a hot commodity when it decided to become a distributor for books so many years ago. (it was over 20 years ago now, I just checked!)

But there is a platform for authors in Amazon that didn’t exist twenty years ago. Heck, KDP wasn’t around either. But this post is mostly about KDP, and how to turn KDP Select into a money-making machine. Yes, you have to go exclusive with them for 90 days, but there are a few things you can do that will make that little time-frame quite financially beneficial.

How do I use KDP Select to my advantage?

Well, I’m glad you asked. Ways you can leverage KDP Select to build a platform for yourself:

  • Write an outstanding book, have it edited within an inch of its life, and spend some $$ to have a great cover put on it.
  • Write a great hook for your book, a back cover blurb that makes someone want to read the first few pages, and then more hooks inside of it that keeps them reading.
  • Find a way to have a book launch that knocks people’s socks off. Make it big. Have a contest, run Facebook ads, take out a Bookbub if you can get one. And always try to get some good reviews done before it releases. I personally need more of these, so I know it is the hardest part of marketing.
  • These are only a sampling of things needed to build your platform so that when you come out with a book the readers sit up and take notice. I will do my best to come up with more ideas for you. If you have a question about a marketing idea you have heard, leave a comment below and let’s start a discussion.

In the next part of this series, I will talk about how to pick a niche for your book and create a buzz for it.
