EXCERPT
She walked him to the front door.
“Would you like to have dinner tonight at the Café? My treat,” Will asked, rubbing the back of his neck and squinting.
Did he worry she would refuse again? The Café was in The Inn, not like a date at all.
“Well, I do have to eat, I suppose,” she said with a smirk. “We could certainly eat together. But you can’t keep buying my meals. Let’s go Dutch.”
He pulled open the door and grinned at her. “Maybe,” he said over his shoulder as a parting shot. “See you at 5:30.”
After he left, the shop seemed less bright and full of life. Will Birmingham sucked the air out of a room when he left it. Diana had never met anyone like him. It was amazing how much she was warming up to him.
She became annoyed with herself after remembering her recent conversation about no time for a man in her life. She also remembered telling him she didn’t have time for him, but he sure was persistent.
She snatched the glass cleaner bottle from under the bathroom sink, a wad of paper towels from the holder on the wall and attacked the glass on the three-sided mirror. To anyone watching, it would seem as if she were trying to wipe the image of her own happy reflection away.
